Nickel-molybdenum and nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys with unmatched resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in the most aggressive chemical environments.
Hastelloy is a family of nickel-based superalloys developed by Haynes International, renowned for their outstanding corrosion resistance in the harshest chemical environments. The B-series alloys are nickel-molybdenum compositions optimized for reducing acids, while the C-series alloys combine nickel, chromium, and molybdenum for versatile resistance to both oxidizing and reducing media.

Common questions about Hastelloy alloys answered by our technical team.
Hastelloy C276 is the most versatile and widely used Hastelloy grade due to its exceptional resistance to a broad range of corrosive chemicals including oxidizing and reducing acids, chloride-induced pitting, and stress corrosion cracking. It performs well in both oxidizing and reducing environments, unlike most alloys which excel in only one. Its proven track record spanning decades in chemical processing, pollution control, and pulp & paper industries makes it the default choice for severe corrosion service.
Yes, all Hastelloy grades can be welded using standard techniques including GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and SMAW. Hastelloy C22 offers the best weldability among the C-family grades due to its resistance to grain boundary precipitation. Matching filler metals (ERNiCrMo-10 for C22, ERNiCrMo-4 for C276) are recommended. Post-weld heat treatment is generally not required for the C-family grades, making fabrication straightforward.
Hastelloy B2 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy optimized for reducing environments (hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid) with outstanding resistance to pure HCl at all concentrations and temperatures. Hastelloy C276 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy that handles both oxidizing and reducing environments. B2 should not be used in oxidizing conditions, while C276 is the universal choice when the chemical environment varies or is not fully defined. C276 also has better chloride pitting resistance.
