About Inconel Alloys

Inconel is a family of austenitic nickel-chromium-based superalloys. They are oxidation-corrosion-resistant materials well suited for service in extreme environments subjected to pressure and heat. When heated, Inconel forms a thick, stable, passivating oxide layer protecting the surface from further attack.

FountainHead Alloys is a leading manufacturer, exporter and supplier of Inconel alloy products in Mumbai, India, serving clients in 60+ countries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Inconel 625 is primarily strengthened by solid-solution strengthening from molybdenum and niobium, offering excellent corrosion resistance and weldability. Inconel 718 is a precipitation-hardened alloy with much higher strength (1241 MPa tensile vs 827 MPa for 625) due to gamma double-prime hardening. 718 is preferred for structural aerospace components, while 625 excels in corrosive marine and chemical environments.
Inconel alloys can withstand continuous service temperatures ranging from 700°C to over 1000°C depending on the grade. Inconel 600 operates up to 1093°C, Inconel 601 up to 1175°C, and Inconel 718 up to 704°C for high-stress applications. Their strength retention at elevated temperatures makes them essential for gas turbines, furnaces, and heat treating equipment.
Inconel alloys are used extensively in aerospace (jet engines, turbine blades, exhaust systems), oil & gas (downhole equipment, wellhead components), chemical processing (reactors, heat exchangers), power generation (gas turbines, nuclear reactors), and marine applications. Their unique combination of high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and corrosion resistance makes them indispensable in these critical industries.
